Rhône-Alpes at the 2010 Shanghai Expo

The Shanghai World Expo threw open its doors on May 1. The Rhône-Alpes Region is making its presence known at this global meeting ground thanks to an eco-pavilion built just for the occasion. A true showcase of the region's know-how and innovation, this building will subsequently house the offices of Entreprise Rhône-Alpes International (ERAI) in Shanghai. Until October 31, Rhône-Alpes will therefore make its home at the center of the largest-ever world expo (70 million visitors expected) and promote its many strengths. A number of companies have already organized meetings in the Rhône-Alpes pavilion to increase their standing in the global marketplace. Theme weeks will be held in the pavilion on topics as diverse as gastronomy, innovation and transportation.
The Rhône-Alpes Region's presence at the world expo shines the spotlight on the more than 20-year-long special relationship between the Region and Shanghai.

Europe and South America: the Motors meet

The "Four Motors for Europe," of which Rhône-Alpes is a member, and the "Four Motors for Mercosul" (State of Paraná in Brazil, Department of Alto Paraná in Paraguay, Province of Córdoba in Argentina and Department of Rivera in Uruguay) recently held their first meeting in Brazil.
Since 2008, the two alliances have sought to cooperate closely and this first meeting provided an opportunity to lay the groundwork for a shared approach to their work and for the first joint actions, notably in the economic sphere and in research and development.

The Regions make an impact in the international arena

The Rhône-Alpes Region is a member of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), a global network of regional governments whose mission is to promote the vitality and the role of regional governments in the international arena, to serve as a counterweight to the States and influence international policy-making.
The vice-president of the Regional Council in charge of Europe and International Relations traveled to Chicago at the end of April for the UCLG Executive Bureau. Through its involvement in this network, Rhône-Alpes seeks to confirm that the Regions' voice will be heard at the international level.
